Gorgeous mare with calm temperament,  great bloodlines, trail horse, cowhorse, team penning candidate $6,000

Dusty Dos got her name from her full sister, Dusty Cowgirl, a beautiful flaxen-maned chestnut mare that we bought from our friend Mindy Bell. Dusty Cowgirl was one heck of a nice horse, and when one of our guests up in Marble just couldn’t live without her, Dusty went to Texas. We were a little sad about such a nice horse leaving our herd, but we perked up when we visited Mindy over in Hotchkiss. Standing there in the pasture was a full sister to Dusty Cowgirl, a filly with the exact same flaxen mane and tail and beautiful head. So we bought her on the spot and named her Dusty Dos.

2005 APHA solid chestnut filly with flaxen mane and tail

The stallion in this breeding, Half Brother, has over 200 ROM points in steer stopping, team roping, working cowhorse, and reining. He is a beautiful black and white tobiano, and is known for producing colts with beautiful heads, a great conformation, and calm attitudes. The mare, Skippa Wynona, is out of the famous Skipper W bloodlines. Dusty Dos’s conformation is pure quarter horse, as she has a good big hip, a nice deep heartgirth, good withers to hold a saddle, and short pasterns for a nice smooth gait. She is 14.2 hands and weighs about 900-950 pounds, so she’s a great size for a smaller rider who is looking for a horse that’s easy to mount and dismount. She’s a solid chestnut color, like the color of a new penny, with a beautiful flaxen mane and tail. She has nice hard dark-colored feet.

We started Dusty Dos under saddle this past summer, and she’s gotten lots of Clinton Anderson’s groundwork under her belt. We’ll be taking her to the mountains this spring and summer, working her on cattle and using her on trail rides, so she’ll have a solid foundation for the next level. Where do we think she’ll do the best job? Well, this is a very gentle mare. She’s a sweetheart to work with—willing to go, ready to work, easy to catch, super nice to handle. She loads easily, stands quiet for the farrier, is easy to groom and tack up, and is an all-around nice horse. And by the way, did you notice how good-looking she is?

Dusty will make a great trail horse and mountain horse; she’s a super candidate for working cowhorse, team penning, or reining.
